Chess Set. Cinema 4D. Concept Art. The King. Character Design. Gothic. Matthew Chattle.

A new design for the King. It seems that I keep changing his design, I suppose at some point I'll settle on one, this does seem more in keeping with the Bishop and the Queen, so it might well be the one.....

The King. Chess piece. Vinyl Toy. Cinema 4D. Character design. Gothic.

The King from the ongoing chess set project. He's a bit late in coming but I've been a bit busy recently. There is still some work to do on him but I like the face design. I'm starting some sculptures of the Bubbles figures and I intend doing some limited edition resin versions, that's all in the 'planning' stages at present, but it's something I'm aiming to do in the near future.

Chess Set. Cinema 4D. Concept Art. The Queen. Character Design. Gothic. Matthew Chattle.

Well as promised in the last post, I've put the Queen into new colours and I think she looks more regal now. I can't understand how I liked the previous colour, well you live and learn..

Chess Set. Character Design. Gothic. Matthew Chattle.

This is the chess set so far with a completely redesigned Queen, I may still alter the colour of her robes, but she fits in well with the look of the Bishop.

Character Design. The Queen. 3D. Cinema 4D. Concept Art. Creature. Monster. Blokkhed. matthew Chattle.

This is another test of the Queen from the chess set. It's funny but two weeks ago I had never considered designing a chess set, the idea just grew naturally. One idea leads to another, which is fun to do. This character is much more complex than the Bishop, although I want to keep the designs similar or at least related in some way. More to come in the next few days.

Chess. The Queen. 3D. Cinema 4D. Character Concept. Vinyl Toy. Toys.

Here's a test render of the Queen for the chess set. I'm working on the figure and throne at present so this is a work in progress, no textures as yet but it's quite nice to see the pure sculpture.

Chess. Bishop. 3D. Cinema 4D. Character Concept. Vinyl Toy. Toys.

Keep praying, because the Bishop is here and he's thinking bad thoughts. A very bad creature indeed.

Blokkhed

p.s.: I know this is part of a chess set, but it could develop into some sort of story-line, I'll keep thinking about it and see where it takes me.

Chess. Bishop. 3D. Cinema 4D. Character Concept.

Better start praying, because here's The Bishop and he's not very nice, not nice at all. He's part of the monstrous chess set I'm now working on. Who's is the first move?

Another view of this ugglyhed. As I said in the last post it looks like a chess piece so I'm working on the rest of the set.

Ugly Design. Monster. 3D. Concept Design. Blokkhed. Matthew Chattle. Cinema 4D

This was a quick design, a 3D sketch if you like. I use Cinema 4D and the tools are really intuitive [which sounds like a sales pitch, but I assure you it's true]. I start with a cube and a hypernurbs and start dividing and extruding. This ugglyhed was a two day model and texture job. I quite like him, and I thought he looks a bit like a chess piece, so I may well design the rest of the set. If he was in a chess set I think he would be a pawn, but you never know. I'll post some new views later in the week.

Vinyl Toy. Packaging. Concept Art. 3D Design. Blokkhed

A red Bubble Vinyl Toy concept with a box packaging idea. It's a quick render so it's not perfect but it gives an idea of what is possible. I've got to get some more vector illustrations on the way next month, been very busy at work recently. As Mister X said "so much to do, so little time"...actually I'm just a bit lazy, so no excuses, it's back to work.

The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit. Mad Men. Illustration.

The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit. Tom Rath is one of those company men, one amongst many. A stereotype perhaps, but actually all those clones have their own story to tell.

The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit. Mad Men. Mid-Century Modern.

I'm going through withdrawal symptoms waiting for the third season of Mad Men at the moment, but I'll just have to wait. In the meantime I've just read "The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit" by Sloan Wilson. A novel about Tom Rath a company man. It seems at first to be all about 1950s conformity when it isn't really. Any seemingly conformist person, due to their outward physical conformity [the suit] can really mask a man with a complex history. Don Draper is in the same mold and is an even more complex character. I like the era from 1950 to the early sixties [before they started swinging], the Cold War and the Space Race and everything that went with the times is so fascinating.

Science Fiction. Robots. Cinema 4D. Concept Art. Blokkhed.

The new Bots start to explore a world in their reconnaissance truck. It's a big, big vehicle and I'll do some more images soon showing its' true scale. This picture is a quick collage with the earlier image showing the new colours, and I am going to work on more terrains and environments.

Robots. Cinema 4D. Concept Art. Science Fiction.

I was asked if I was doing any different colours for my robot. So here are three new colours. The image is part of the idea behind the genesis of the bots and who, or what the [red] Blokkhed really is. I really have so much to do with this character yet and I'll do more images exploring colour as well some remodeling and variants on the body shape. Hope you like this one.

Ps: there are some more vehicles and environments to come, so keep looking in.

Vinyl Toy. 3D. Cinema 4D. Plastic. Toys. MOO.com

I think this creature is called 4Nekk, as he has [sort of] four necks. I seem to concentrate on primary colours and red in particular. I have to explore more textures and colours in future, but I suppose I like red..
I'll keep posting ideas for vinyl toys and I hope you like them.

Blokkhed

Ps: Had to put a link in Cool Stuff for Moo.com I had heard about them, they print cards from your own [or others] images, the prices seemed incredibly good value. I thought I'd give them a try. The quality is excellent, and they were quick-only ten days after uploading them I got the cards in the post. Check them out.

3D. Cinema 4D. Bandai. Gundam. Blokkhed. Robot. Toys. Model Kit.

Blokkbot as a Bandai model kit? What a great idea! It's great fun to work on concepts such as this, I really want to develop more designs for this robot, I just keep getting into other work and he keeps getting put on the back burner. But, I will do some designs for more armour and different configurations and vehicles, but there are unfortunately not nearly enough hours in a day.

Bandai. Gundam. Model Kit. Blokkhed. Robot. Cinema 4D

Here is the Blokkbot if he was a kit by the wonderful Bandai. I hadn't touched kits since i was about 16. But I recently bought a few Bandai Gundam kits. Beautifully designed and made they are. Wouldn't the Blokkbot look good as a kit? I think so, well I would wouldn't I?

Vinyl Toy. Character Design. Lowbrow. Plastic. Cinema 4D

This is HEDDOG, a sort of dog with a sort of head. He's a vinyl toy design and along with the Bubbles characters I'm working on a few other concepts. It would be good to make one of these concepts into actual models, that's for the future though.

Vinyl Toy concepts based on my 'Bubbles' characters. I'm working on many different ideas at the moment, which is why these posts keep jumping from one idea to another, I will be putting up some images of the vehicles I'm creating, but I like these characters as well. I want to expand these vinyl toy ideas a lot more so I hope you like them.

Cinema 4D. 3D. Concept Art. Design. Motorbike. Chopper

Here are some new renders of the chopper with new materials [I'm learning] added. I'm now working on a very, very large vehicle, a sort of monster truck military style for the blokkbot. To give you an idea of the size, there'll be a door in the wheel rim and the tires would be approximately 40 feet in diameter. Its a good project to give me more experience with texturing and materials, I'll try and post some 'in progress' files to show development.

It's a bit late for this competition, the rather excellent Teetonic competition. Take a look at this one, there's only three days to vote, give me a vote if you like it [or not]. I'll be entering next month, so keep taking a look.
Thanks
